We acknowledge that   El Catrin, part of The Distillery Restaurants Corp. in The Distillery District, is located on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. The Distillery District is located on a pathway of water routes at the base of Lake Ontario. It is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, a treaty between the Anishnaabeg, the Haudenosaunee, and allied nations, to share and steward the land with care. This land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
We encourage our guests to join us in reflecting on their individual and collective relationships to this land, whether through settlement, immigration, displacement, and/or a combination of interrelated experiences. We also encourage our guests to inform themselves on the Indigenous and colonial histories of Tkarón:to/Toronto and Treaty relationships.
Lastly, we encourage our guests, teams, suppliers, partners and extended communities to thoroughly read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 2015 report, 94 Calls to Action. As a restaurant group, event space and cultural hub located on a designated heritage site, our organization pays specific attention to Call 92: Business and Reconciliation, Calls 69 - 70: Museums and Archives, and Calls 79 - 83: Commemoration.
