Agua frescas (Spanish for "cool waters", or literally "fresh waters") are light non-alcoholic beverages made from one or more fruits, cereals, flowers, or seeds blended with sugar and water.
Drinking agua fresca is a delicious Mexican tradition and can be a healthy option to complement your daily menu! Honey, stevia or unrefined sugar alternatives may be used in place of sugar. Agua fresca is HIGHLY customizable -- really, no two agua frescas are the same!
Here's one of Chef Olivier's favourite recipes for you to try at home!
½ a cucumber
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 litre water
½ cup sugar
10 ice cubes
Juice 5 of your limes, and add the juice to your blender. Cut 1 lime into slices and reserve for garnish. Cut 6 slices off your cucumber and reserve for garnish. Put the rest of your cucumber in the blender. Add 1 whole lime, your water, sugar and ice cubes in and blend.
Transfer your blended agua fresca to a serving jug.
Serve with a pinch of chia seeds and cucumber and lime garnishes.
